Black Heart

Anna-Lou Weatherley

he hotel maid opens the door to the penthouse suite. She smiles at the sweet little teddy bear sitting in the middle of the vast, luxurious bed. Her eyes drift to the nearly empty heart-shaped box of chocolates and then she spots something that sends a shiver down her spine – a blood covered note with the words: ‘My beautiful darling, I’m sorry, please forgive me.’

They’ll say it was a tragic suicide. His wife will break down into uncontrollable sobs when she hears the news of how her darling husband of nearly twenty years died. She’ll refuse to believe it.

It’ll take time for them to find the arsenic and the 21 mg of chloroform in his system.

They’ll start to build a picture of a dangerous psychopathic woman, but I’ll make it very hard for them to find me.

They don’t know the truth about him, about the others. They don’t know what I’ve been through.

They may think they know what I’m capable of.

But I’m only just getting started.
